Let’s face it. “Vampire” is a loaded word. It seems to be one of
several visceral words in the English language, words so powerful as to
engender a reaction just by speaking them. But let’s take a closer
look.

1: the reanimated body of a dead person believed to come from the grave at night and suck the blood of persons asleep
2: one who lives by preying on others
